Corruption Awareness and Prevention of Procurement Fraud

VENRO & German Red Cross

28. & 29. October 2024, Nürnberg

Consistent prevention of all types of corruption is a challenge in the humanitarian and development sector. It can manifest in various forms, including bribery, nepotism and fraud. The impacts of corruption are far-reaching and severe, as it undermines the efficiency and effectiveness of aid and development initiatives and destroys trust in organisations and their ability to assist communities in need. The procurement process, which plays a central role in delivering humanitarian and development assistance, is particularly vulnerable to corruption. Corruption in this area can lead to inflated costs, substandard products, and delays and ultimately harming aid recipients. To address these challenges, it is essential that organisations implement stringent measures for preventing and combating corruption.
