Localisation of humanitarian action and the resolution of related conflicts

VENRO

26-27 November 2024, Hybrid workshop, Bochum and online (Zoom)

The implementation of people centered and locally led humanitarian action is one of the most pressing issues in the humanitarian sector. Despite the successes and progress during the last years, localisation also presents humanitarian organisations with challenges. Localisation requires a change in the roles and responsibilities of various actors involved in humanitarian work. Such a change in established structures and procedures can lead to uncertainty and conflict because organisations need to reshape their traditional way of working with their partners.

In addition, different interpretations of locally led humanitarian action and the measures required for its implementation can lead to conflicts within organisations, but also between different actors.

In this workshop, participants will gain insights into research on localisation and the management of conflicts and will develop practical methods for dealing with such conflicts. The workshop will take place as a hybrid format in Bochum (for German NGOs) and online (for local/national partner NGOs).
