Designing and managing high-quality humanitarian action requires the participation of everyone affected or involved in a crisis. But what does participation really mean in practice and which method fits when?

The training is part of a joint project by the IFHV of Ruhr-University Bochum and VENRO. The seminar can be credited for the "Certificate of Advanced Studies in Locally-Led Humanitarian Action", about which you may find more information here.

In the three-day intensive training we will discuss which methods fit which contexts, what roles and responsibilities accompany a certain approach, and how to face limitations and moral dilemmas while doing participatory action. The training will be held in three consecutive weeks, providing time for participants to digest the learnings and exchange in group works between the sessions. We invite interested humanitarian professionals, such as program staff, project officers and managers, as well as sectoral specialists with at least two years working experience to join the training.

The training will be led by the experienced trainers and humanitarians Thomas Lahnthaler and Anisa Goshi of The Crisis Compass. Thomas Lahnthaler has been working in complex crises and conflict zones for more than a decade. He is a certified conflict mediator, facilitator and do no harm trainer. Anisa Goshi is a cross-industry expert who adds experience from communications, project and strategic relationship management, and working with forcibly displaced communities.

Registration and the preliminary agenda can be found on the course page here. Participation is free of charge. Given that the number of participants is limited, we kindly ask you to answer a brief motivation statement upon registration. The training will be held in English.
