Peer-to-peer phases between sessions

14 October: online (Zoom)

28 October: online (Zoom)

8-9 November: Berlin or online (depending on Covid-19 regulations)

Facilitators: Jacob van ‘t Slot, Steven Poot and Henrieke Hommes from Global Risk Advice.

Humanitarian NGOs are working in difficult contexts. An appropriate security and crisis management in NGOs is key when it comes to the duty of care for their employees.

In four (online) seminars, participants will learn how to improve their own security concepts and crisis management, how to safeguard the ownership of staff and how to involve partner organisations. Between the sessions, participants are invited to discuss their security and crisis management concepts in peer-to-peer meetings. After the sessions, they can take part in individual coaching with the trainers.

The learning series is directed at security and/or crisis management focal points or HR/management staff of German humanitarian NGOs with multiannual work experience. Participants are expected to take part in all seminars and peer-to-peer phases.

The sessions will be facilitated by Jacob van ‘t Slot, Steven Poot and Henrieke Hommes from Global Risk Advice. Global Risk Advice is a Dutch consultancy that offers security and crisis management support to international and local NGOs.

Participation is free of charge. Given that the number of participants is limited, we kindly ask you to provide a short motivation statement upon registering and will inform you about final admission after the registration deadline. The sessions will be in English.

The learning series is part of a joint project of the Institute for International Law of Peace and Armed Conflict (IFHV) of Ruhr-University Bochum and VENRO. The seminar series can be credited for the "Certificate of Advanced Studies in Anticipatory Humanitarian Action". You can find more information here. Participants who would like to receive ECTS have to take part in a final test.

Please find the agenda below and register online until 30 September 2021. Participation is free of charge. Travel and accommodation costs must be organised and covered by the participants. To enable interactive sessions, the number of participants is limited. The sessions will be in English.
