Tuesday, 19 October 2021

9 am – 3:30 pm CET

Facilitator: Michael John Parkinson

Humanitarian organisations have to deal with counter-terrorism measures, country-specific sanctions and other related legal provisions. Developing strong internal risk management systems can help minimise or prevent negative consequences of these measures on their humanitarian work.

In this online seminar participants will learn how to analyse associated risks. They will also identify policies and procedures agencies can adopt to mitigate the identified risks.

The two-day seminar is directed at experienced humanitarian NGO staff who are involved in the implementation of humanitarian projects.

The seminar will be facilitated by Michael John Parkinson. He was part of Oxfam GB’s legal team working on the impact of counter-terrorism regulations and designing internal policy frameworks and monitoring compliance with donor contracts. Today Michael is an independent consultant.

The sessions will be in English. Participation is free of charge. Given that the number of participants is limited, we kindly ask you to provide a short motivation statement upon registering and will inform you about final admission after the registration deadline. After the seminar individual coachings are offered.

The seminar is part of a joint project of the Institute for International Law of Peace and Armed Conflict (IFHV) of Ruhr-University Bochum and VENRO.

Please find the agenda below and register online until 1 October 2021. Given that the number of participants is limited, we kindly ask you to provide a short motivation statement upon registering and will inform you about final admission after the registration deadline. The sessions will be in English. Participation is free of charge.
