Five years after the Grand Bargain came into being at the World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul in May 2016, the need for humanitarian assistance has increased worldwide, amplified by the devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Grand Bargain’s objective to create a more efficient and effective humanitarian system in order to reach more people in need is as relevant as ever.
At the Grand Bargain Annual Meeting from 15 to 17 June 2021, the signatories will be deciding how the Grand Bargain process should move forward. There is broad consensus on the need to narrow its focus. The two key strategic topics identified to guide the Grand Bargain 2.0 are quality funding and localisation.
Together with local and international civil society actors as well as the Federal Foreign Office, we would like to explore the signatories’ concrete proposal for the future Grand Bargain and the challenges ahead. The event will be held in English.
