Exploring data is crucial for humanitarian workers. Visualising this geospatial data can help to focus resources and maximise the impact of humanitarian work. This course is an essential training needed to understand the fundamental mapping concepts and become autonomous and confident in using maps in humanitarian settings.

- Getting to know various types of data and where to find them
- Creating basic- and custom-maps
- Importing external data sets with a shapefile
- Importing, viewing and manipulating geospatial data
- Export to Excel, PDF and PNG
Preconditions
Participants must have working laptops that run either Windows, Mac or Linux. Google Chromebooks will not run QGIS.
Target group
Staff of humanitarian NGOs with several years of professional experience. We kindly ask German NGO colleagues to forward this invitation to their local and national partner organisations.
Format
The seminar consists of four two-hour sessions. The sessions will be in English.

The training is part of a joint project of the Institute for International Law of Peace and Armed Conflict (IFHV) of Ruhr-University Bochum and VENRO.
Facilitator
Danielle Kitchingman-Roy has eight years of experience in the humanitarian and development sector. She teaches QGIS to humanitarian professionals seeking to build new skills alongside conducting training on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) at the French Development Agency.
Costs
In contrast to the previous offers, a participation fee of 120 euros per participant will be charged for this training. Participants will be notified at least two weeks prior to the start of the training if enough participants have registered for the course implementation.
