Following the VENRO training on the topic of safeguarding and trauma in October, we would like to take a closer look at the topic in a short workshop in our Community of Practice. Michael Brünger will shed light on the topic from a medical perspective.
Content:
Development cooperation targets traumatised people in many different ways. War, displacement, (sexual) violence and natural disasters can cause long-term stress and impairment - not only for those affected on the ground, but also for those involved in development cooperation, who are faced with tasks that are difficult to solve. Effective action requires knowledge about the development of trauma and intervention options after such an event - we speak of a "trauma-informed approach".

Dr. Michael Brünger is a doctor of child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy, psychotrauma therapist for children and adolescents, systemic family therapist, teaching therapist and supervisor for behavioural therapy. He is chairman of Kinderrechte Afrika e. V., Lahr/Baden-Württemberg.

Format
The online workshop provides a brief overview of the current state of knowledge on the concept of trauma, the factors involved in the development of trauma-related disorders and meaningful interventions that can be carried out by teams and actors in the field. Possibilities for prevention will be discussed.
No prior knowledge is required to participate in the online workshop. It should be noted that reports of traumatising events can lead to impairments ("triggers") in particularly sensitive people.
The workshop session will be in English.
