The United Nations “SDG Summit” in September marks the midpoint of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. According to the current status, the global goals will not be reached. The crises of recent years have caused social and economic inequality to increase significantly worldwide, above all poverty and hunger.

In our event we will discuss Germany’s contributions to achieving the global goals. We want to debate what actions the federal government will take to implement the results of the SDG summit. In this context, we will focus on the role of the German sustainability strategy. In particular, we want to go into how negative spillover effects of German policies impede SDG-achievement in the Global South and how these can be prevented. In this regard, Germany has a special responsibility since, according to the SDG spillover ranking, it is one of the countries with the most negative policy effects worldwide.

Thematically, we will focus on sustainable global supply chains, the sustainable use of resources in a circular economy and the reform of the international development finance.
