Deconstructing Power Structures

VENRO

South-North Cooperation in Education for Sustainable Development

One goal of Education for Sustainable Development is to show global connections, to make power hierarchies visible and to sensitise people for their role in shaping the world. Different perspectives should be made visible and one-sided representations of power and powerlessness positions should be avoided. This power-critical, global, and multiperspective approach should also be reflected in the learning settings and the composition of our education teams. The cooperation of education practitioners from different countries is an essential component for this. However, in a world shaped by unequal power structures, international cooperation is never free from hierachies.

How can we create partnerships that benefit all cooperating parties equally? Which expectations do we have towards international education cooperation? How do power inequalities – especially between practitioners from the Global South and the Global North - affect our work? What do we need to meet these challenges and create a safer space for educational cooperation?

In our online-seminar we want to discuss these questions with international education practitioners. Based on the outcomes of an international online-survey, we want to create orientation points for mutually beneficial education cooperation.

Please register online by 23 April. The online-seminar will be in English. Subtitles in French, German, and Spanish will be available.
